The difference between residential, commercial and industrial grade of chain link is the thickness of the post and wire.

When we say the thickness we are referring to the wall thickness not how big around the post is. Many companies will give you a bigger round post but very light wall in thickness this does not help much; what you want is a heavier wall, preferably schedule 40 post and 9 gauge wire.

It is very important not only to get a good gauge but more importantly is that is is hot dipped galvanized after weaving, this assures the wire has galvanized coating everywhere even where it is cut and twisted.  A good chain link fence should last 25 to 30 years.
